Kind Kids Will Not Let Their Classmate go Hungry

True compassion in action

Kindness Blog

crying-young-boyI work at a school as a college counselor but since we have grades k -12 I have lunch duty with 2nd graders.

Today one of the students who doesn’t really get along well with the others forgot his lunch at home and didn’t have money to buy a school lunch. So he sat there crying until a group of kids came up to him and each gave him something from their lunch.

They returned to their seats and i asked them why they did it since I knew they didn’t like him.

One little boy’s response was “Because he was sad and hungry miss. Just cause we don’t like him, doesn’t mean we want him to be sad and hungry”

Needless to say, I didn’t enforce the no sharing food policy.

A little bit about moi: I am a mom, a nana, a sister, a woman, a friend, a human being…a youth counsellor, Family Life Educator. I have been working in the helping profession for over 25 years and volunteered in various capacities from youths to seniors. Tournesol is my nom de plume for haiku and other Japanese form poetry here at Tournesoldansunjardin I hope you enjoy reading through my daily waka. I also have another blog "Stop the Stigma" where I may stand on my soapbox now and then and hope it will become a place to drop in and share or comment on issues important to you. In that vein this could be a great way to learn from each other. Namaste!
